Welcome to the Third Grade!

Hello,  I am Mrs. Adkins, and I graduated from Wayland Baptist University with a Bachelor's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. I have been teaching here in Littlefield for 13 years. I am married and have two sons.
We switch classes in the third grade, so your student will have all of the third grade teachers.  We will be learning so much this year, so be sure to come to school on time, with all materials, and be prepared to work and learn. I can't wait for the year to begin!

Reading will be very important

Reading skills will be covered everyday through our basal, novels, and reading passages.  Accelerated Reader is used as well to accumulate points and valuable reading skills. I want you to LOVE to read! I award AR readers with a variety of treats, based on how many points they can accumulate. We will also learn reading strategies to prepare for the STAAR test.

STAAR Success!

Our class goal is for everyone to pass the STAAR test.  We want Littlefield Elementary to be the best school in Texas! It's very important for each student to try their best to make this goal happen.

Responsibility

I do not assign much homework, typically it will be unfinished class work, and reading their AR books nightly.  It is the student's responsibility to get homework completed!  Consequences for incomplete homework:  Folder Pull/Lunch Detention.  Six folder pulls will result in a pink slip, which in turn will be 1 swat or 3 days ISS.

Behavior

In order for student success, attendance is crucial!  Every student must act appropriately.  Students being disruptive, doing unnecessary talking, not having/completing homework, having inappropriate hall, cafeteria, and/or bathroom behavior, being mean to other students, being disrespectful to myself, or other staff, and not following directions are just a few examples of things students can get folder pulls for.  If students learn to be responsible for themselves, and to take care of their business, then they will have a great year!!
